TV show tests local restaurants “Haus in Turm” in Bad Honnef is the winner

Bonn · Five restaurants from Bonn and the region were the focus this week of a restaurant testing show which airs on the channel Kabel eins. Called “Mein Lokal, dein Lokal,” each eatery had a chance to put its best foot forward.

Angelo Gati and his restaurant "Lui e Lei" in Sankt Augustin was the first in a row of local restaurants depicted in the series "Mein Lokal, dein Lokal" which runs on German network Kabel eins. The name in English means basically - my neighborhood or local eatery and yours. Besides “Lui e Lei,” other restaurants in Bonn and the region were tested, including "Haus im Turm" in Bad Honnef, and "Jolig's 2012", "GaStru" and "Nees", all in Bonn. With 47 points, the winning restaurant was "Haus im Turm" in Bad Honnef.

Earning 44 points, the eatery "Nees" in Bonn came in second place, "GaStru im Lindenhof" took third place with 42 points and "Lui e Lui" in Sankt Augustin came in fourth with 38 points. "Jolig's 2012" pulled up the rear with 32 points. In the series, five restaurant chefs from one city or region compete against each other every week. Each of the one-hour programs features one of the restaurants. It’s up to each restaurant to win over their four opponents, with all they have to offer, including of course the quality of food.

At the end of each episode, guests give out points. Whichever restaurant has the most points at the end of the week, is the winner. This week, German TV chef Mike Süsser, also awarded points, having tested the restaurants in advance. "Lui e Lei" in Sankt Augustin is located on Südstraße and can be spotted from the Huma shopping center. Angelo Gati has many Italian specialties on the menu, and there are always new dishes to try. At the open wood-fired stone oven, one can see the pizza being prepared. On Tuesday, the show visited "Haus im Turm" in Bad Honnef. In the old castle complex within sight of the Drachenfels, Farlind Scholz welcomed his guests.

His menu features contemporary regional cuisine. The show went to Andreas Jolig’s restaurant, "Jolig's 2012" on Wednesday. It is located on Ermekeilstraße in Bonn. A unique feature of his restaurant: There is no menu here, instead there are large display cases showing the food. Another restaurant featured was "GaStru Cuisine im Lindenhof", located in Kessenich. On Thursday, owner Gabriel Strusch invited the other restaurant owners as well as expert Mike Süsser into his kitchen. At this restaurant, German food is the focus. The finale was on Friday, June 15, at the "Nees" eatery located directly at the Poppelsdorf castle. Here, chef Michael Gossler was at the helm with his offer of "fine dining" using fresh and regional products. Orig. text: ga.de Translation: Carol Kloeppel
