The Alte Friedhof (Old Cemetery), the university or the Kunstmuseum (Art Museum): Bonn's locations have often served as the backdrop for numerous film and television productions. But in 2019 Bonn was even more popular as a film location than in previous years. The information comes from the Event Coordination for Citizen Services. Bonn venues were used for 81 productions, with around 115 days of filming. Even two Netflix productions were shot at locations in Bonn.

Film and television productions

Twelve cinema and TV feature films were shot in Bonn in 2019, according to the City of Bonn press office. The University of Bonn served as the backdrop for Sönke Wortmann's feature film "Contra". Christoph Maria Herbst plays a law professor who discriminated against a student (Nilam Farooq). In order to make up for his mistake, he is her mentor in an important debate.

With Adam Driver, Simon Helberg, Michelle Williams or Marion Cotillard, the Kunstmuseum became the setting for the rock'n'roll music film "Annette". Scenes from an ARD film series were shot at various locations, as was the film "Gott, du kannst ein Arsch sein" with Jürgen Vogel and Til Schweiger, which will be released in 2020.

Scenes for the MDR music documentary "The Three Lives of Clara Schumann" were recorded in the Alten Friedhof. To mark the 200th birthday of the pianist, the documentary tells the story of the inner turmoil of the music publisher, professor and eight-time mother. Clara Schumann is played by the actress Jana Klinge.

The Villa Cappell in Bad Godesberg was the setting for a WDR television comedy. Also for "Help, I've shrunk my friends" the film was shot in Bonn in the Pestalozzi School on Budapester Strasse. The third part of "Billy Kuckuck" was partly shot on Endenicher Strasse and Ippendorfer Allee. The children's book adaptation of "Laura's Star" took place at several locations, such as the Schlosskirche or the Kaiserbrunnen.

TV series and documentaries

Scenes were shot in Bonn for two Netflix series. In "How to sell drugs online (fast)", a teenager, played by Maximilian Mundt, founds Europe's largest online drug mail order company (the series is also in English). In the second season, the Bonn district of Ippendorf serves as the backdrop for the fictional city of "Rinseln". The second season is scheduled to start in spring 2020.

"Wir sind die Welle", also a Netflix production, is loosely based on the youth book and cinema film "Die Welle" and deals with young people who start a left-wing counter-movement to the existing shift to the right in the society of the fictitious German city "Meppersfeld". In April, the Stadthalle Bad Godesberg was used for the shooting.

Also for new episodes of the VOX family series "Das Wichtigste im Leben" ("The Most Important in Life"), photographs were taken on the grounds of Deutsche Welle, in the outdoor area of the Kunstmuseum, on Hans Steger Ufer and on Kurt Schumacher Strasse.

The Bonn comedian Luke Mockridge was also in Bonn inner city with his camera team for his TV show "Luke! Die Greatnightshow", at the Markt and at Münsterplatz.

In addition to other series such as "Der Sportmacher", "How cats and dogs conquered the world" and "Auf Streife - Die Spezialisten", numerous reports were filmed in Bonn, including children’s programs.

Bonn in advertising and image films

In addition, the inner city of Bonn, the Kunstmuseum and the Rheinaue Park served as the setting for university film projects, image films by Bonn companies, internet or music videos.
