Tree stood in front of Anja's tea shop Anger over stolen Christmas tree in Duisdorf

Duisdorf · A lovingly decorated fir tree stood in front of "Anja's Teestübchen" on Rochusstraße - until Monday morning. The tree is gone, someone has stolen it. Businesswoman Anja Diehl is appalled.

Anja Diehl is angry. When the Duisdorf businesswoman went to her shop "Anja's Teestübchen" on Rochusstraße as usual on Monday morning, she saw it already from a distance: The Christmas tree, lovingly decorated by her, no longer stood in front of the windows of her shop, where she had set it up as a decoration. The tree was gone.

"At first I was speechless as to why someone could come up with the idea of simply stealing a Christmas tree," she says in a telephone conversation with the General-Anzeiger. But then her astonishment gave way to anger. "To be honest, I'm furious with whoever did this. That's why I finally went to the police." She had briefly considered whether she should report a stolen Christmas tree to the police at all, causing additional work for the police. "Of course the police have a lot more important things to do," she says. But then she thought, no, theft remains theft, no matter what it is, and then she filed a complaint.

"That was absolutely the right thing to do for Mrs. Diehl," says police spokesman Simon Rott. After all, this is not a trivial crime, it is like any other theft, a criminal offense that is prosecuted. "We have many such reports and we follow up on all of them," assures Rott. However, the problem in such cases is that if no one observed the crime, it is very difficult to identify the perpetrator afterwards. That is why it always makes sense for the victims to turn to the public. He gave the example of the buggy stolen from a house in Nordstadt, a special design for a disabled boy - it was later found in an underground car park in Poppelsdorf, although the thief could not be identified. In the case of Anja Diehl, the theft must have occurred between Saturday, 5 p.m., and Monday, 8 a.m..

Tea shop owner hopes for witnesses

Anja Diehl hopes that during this timeframe someone may have observed the theft or at least noticed something. "If anyone noticed anything, please report it to the Duisdorf police." It is not the first time she has experienced such a thing, the businesswoman reports. Some time ago there was vandalism and theft in front of her shop. "Small flowers were stolen, as was a very large boxtree from a pot." She filed criminal charges for each theft. "Unfortunately always in vain.”

She was particularly angry about the recent theft. "Because I also tried to use the Christmas tree to conceal the ugly construction site next door, which for years has not only affected my shop’s appearance," she explains. Nevertheless, Anja Diehl will now buy a new tree, decorate it again and hopes that it will stay this time.
