A 16-year-old is believed to have inflicted the injuries on the 20-year-old, the police said on Sunday. Three suspects were temporarily arrested after the crime.

Investigations so far have shown that there was initially a verbal dispute between two groups of three people each at the Berliner Freiheit at around 10:50 pm. When this escalated, glass bottles were smashed in order to use them as weapons, the police said on Sunday.

According to the investigation up to now, the 16-year-old is said to have pulled a knife as the situation heated up, and he inflicted serious injuries on the 20-year-old. After being given medical care on site, he was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is currently stable.

A 17-year-old and a 20-year-old, both involved in the dispute, were taken into police custody and later released. The investigations concerning them, however, continue.

The 16-year-old was brought before a magistrate at the request of the Bonn public prosecutor's office. The judge issued a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. He was taken to a correctional facility.

The public prosecutor's office has not yet been able to provide any information on the background of the dispute. The GA has a video showing several police vehicles and ambulances.

Due to the overall circumstances, a homicide commission of the Bonn police, in close coordination with the public prosecutor's office, has taken over the investigations on suspicion of an attempted killing.
