Bonn/Region · It’s that wonderful time of year when the Rhine will light up with fireworks and a delightful parade of boats. Make your plans now for Rhein in Flammen!

Siegburg Wine Festival: May 5 - 8

Opens at 4 p.m. Thursday. Vintners from all over will present their wines using a new concept this year, the “Weinstraße” (wine road). Regional wine growers and retailers will offer wines from all over the world, with a focus on South Africa. Culinary delights will be diverse and include a wide variety of treats including coffee specialties, steaks from a wood coal grill, asian food, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Live music will be featured every day.

Burg Adendorf, Country & Garden Fair: May 5 - 8

A unique atmosphere awaits visitors who attend the “Landpartie” in Wachtberg over the long weekend. More than 150 exhibitors will participate this year. If you are into gardening, there will be exhibitors with information about plants and plant breeding. Decorating experts will be on hand as well as wine growers, delicatessen suppliers and florists. Fashion - both classic and modern will be offered, travel specialists will be there, and art experts will also be on hand to value your paintings.

Classic old cars will be on display. The Waldorf kindergarten offers games and stories for all kids from the age of three, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. The address to get to the fair is Burg Adendorf, Wachtberg. Tickets bought in advance cost 12.50 euro at www.landpartie-adendorf.de or 15 euro at the fair. Kids 16 and under get in free. Opening hours are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Rhein in Flammen (Rhine in Flames): May 6 - 8

30 years of Rhein in Flammen! A big festival at the Rhine river with the highlight being Saturday night fireworks.

On Friday, there is an Open Air Concert on the main stage beginning at 5 p.m. The RheinImpuls-stage at the Südbrücke begins with live acts at 4 p.m. The RheinEvents stage on the Blumenwiese (the big grassy area) begins with musical acts at 2 p.m. Musical acts end at midnight. On Saturday, music will be offered from 2:30 p.m. to pass the time until thousands have gathered for the firework display at 11:15 p.m. Boats and ships on the river will be all lit up to make for a stunning parade on the water. Musical acts end at midnight.

Sunday is family day. A fun, exciting and colorful program is offered for families beginning at 12 noon. At the main stage, there will be interactive games and moderation geared towards kids.

Important! Visitors are advised to use the extended public transportation offers or come on bikes as there are not that many parking spaces in the area and it gets very crowded. Open fires, disposable grills and glass containers are not allowed. Food and beverages are sold at the events.

Flic Flac circus “Maximum penalty - 25 years of Flic Flac”

25-year Anniversary tour. Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Unconventional circus with lights, lasers, motors, rock beats and many stunts from artists and acrobats. The 2-hour show tours 40 cities and will be in Bonn until May 16. Advance tickets cost 19-49 euro at flicflac.de. Shows are Thursdays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday at 7 p.m, Saturday & Sunday at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Beethovenhalle, Wachsbleiche 16.

“Art and Escape” - A number of Syrian artists are showcasing their work in Cologne. How do artists deal with the war in their homeland, and how does it influence their art? An exhibition of paintings and sculptures. Opening on Thursday at 7 p.m. and running until May 15, Thursday-Sunday 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. Kulturbunker Cologne, Berliner Str. 20. Admission free.

“HofArt”: An art exhibition in a former barn and wood storage area. Woodcrafters and artists display their works in a charming space of 80 sq. meters. Helga Becker presents pillows woven from old newspapers, Anina van Buiren displays a “rush of colors” with her paintings and sculptures. Barbara Clemens works with leather and knits to produce handbags, scarves and dresses. Host of the art show, Josef Kemp produces large wooden sculptures and paper thin wooden bowls. UN Benefit concert: Everyone is invited to join for the World Migratory Bird Day benefit concert. Like migratory birds, music overcomes boundaries and unites people. Following the success of the past three years, the Opera Choir "Chorale Lirica San Rocco" from Bologna has generously offered to raise their voices for the worldwide protection of migratory birds again. The concert will be held in the Hall of the University of Bonn on Sunday 8 May 2016, at 11am. More details are available on the program flyer of the WMBD2016 Bonn concert (in German) and in English. Admission is free but donations are kindly requested.
