Saturday warning sirens Siren system and Warn-App NINA to be tested

Bonn · On Saturday, officials will be testing both the siren warning system and the NINA Warn-App. Those who have downloaded NINA on their smartphones can test if it is functioning properly.

In Bonn and Rhine-Sieg County on Saturday, there will be a test of the siren warning system between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. Other cities will participate in the siren system test as well, including Cologne, Wesseling, Leverkusen, and Krefeld. In conjunction with the warning siren, Fire and Rescue officials in Bonn and Rhine-Sieg County will also test the Warn-App NINA.

Residents who have downloaded the App on their Smartphones should be able to test if the App is functioning properly on their phone. The App is only available in German, but it does at least notify you if there is a major warning or danger, whether it be a natural catastrophe, a bomb or something else.

While this is only a test of the emergency system, in a real emergency residents would be advised to do the following:

-seek shelter in a closed room and close doors and windows

  • turn off air conditioning
  • tell neighbors
  • if possible, avoid using telephones
  • only call numbers 110 (POLICE) or 112 (FIRE) in a real emergency
  • check the following information sources: www.bonn.de (there will be a special warning window if there is a danger)

- in Rhine-Sieg County, go to the Homepage and you will receive a list of warnings.
