It’s a first - a Medical and Technology guide to Bonn and Cologne published in English. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Bonn/Rhine-Sieg (IHK) announced that a new guide had been published to provide an overview of what is being offered in the region in terms of medical technology and develpoment. The guide is called, “Medical Technology in Cologne and Bonn. A Guide to the Competencies of the Medical Industry,” and is available for free to those interested.

“The Medical Technology branch in the Cologne-Bonn region is a steadily growing cluster with innovative products and firms which are marked by their competency in the field and a strong sense of innovation,” remarked Heiko Oberlies, health expert for the IHK Bonn/Rhine-Sieg. The IHK wants to support growth in this market by strengthening the image of the industry at home and globally through public relations, and encouraging networking and cooperation amongst companies. Firms from the region can register and be included in the next edition at: www.medtech-rhineland.de.

Published in the English language, the purpose of the guide is to increase national and international awareness of what is going on in the Cologne/Bonn region in terms of medical technological development. It is also hoped that the guide will stimulate cooperative work with companies abroad. Even more, it’s about promoting networking of regional businesses and scientific cooperation.

According to the guide, there are a “large number of excellent universities and research institutions or industrial parks such as the university clinics of Cologne and Bonn with programmes in medical technology, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the German Dementia Centre, the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine, the Life Science Incubator and the BioCampus Cologne (a campus for medical technology, life science, and biotechnology companies) to name only a few.” Medical technology in German has a highly respected reputation worldwide. In 2014, the export rate from this sector of the economy was 68 percent, a good deal of it being contributed by firms from the Cologne/Bonn region.
