Arcadia Passage shooting 23-year-old claims self defence after shooting

Bad Godesberg · Police said the 23-year-old alleged gunman was threatened before he opened fire in the Arcadia Passage on Friday evening. All suspects have now been released after the shooting. The police are investigating new leads.

Bonn police have found new evidence in the course of their enquiries into the shooting in the Arcadia Passage on Friday evening. The 23-year-old alleged gunman was apparently threatened by a 36-year-old man and others. Police said, “The firing of shots was apparently an act of self defence.” Current investigations also show he did not shoot with intent to kill. Police said all suspects had been released from custody for the moment.

During the dispute late on Friday evening, the 36-year-old was shot several times and injured in his lower body and legs. He had to be taken to hospital for treatment. The alleged gunman turned himself in a short time later at Bad Godesberg police station. A Bonn police Homicide Squad has taken over the enquiries in close cooperation with the Bonn Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Police spokesman, Frank Piontek, told the GA it was difficult to work out the circumstances of and background to the incident. The allegations of threats also make the 36-year-old a suspect, meaning he does not have to make a statement. Police were still giving no information yesterday on the nationality of those involved. When asked, Piontek confirmed that the suspects were not from Bad Godesberg. They had come in from Bonn and the Bonn area. The men had apparently first met each other in a bar. Shots were then fired in the Passage. “We’re still in the course of identifying further suspects,” said Piontek.

The 23-year-old is being investigated for suspected grievous bodily harm and breaches of the Weapons Act. According to GA information, the firearm was confiscated on Friday evening. When the man appeared at the Godesberg police station, he apparently had the gun in his car. Police secured it.

It was business as usual in the Bad Godesberg Arcadia Passage on Monday lunchtime. Smoke from the shisha bar filled the corridors with a vanilla scent and numerous diners were having lunch in the restaurants. The police cordons had been lifted.
