Wage dispute in the public sector : Verdi calls for warning strike at Bonn university hospital

The trade union Verdi called for warning strikes at university clinics in NRW next Tuesday because of the wage dispute in the public service of the federal states. The hospital in Bonn is also affected.

The union Verdi has called for warning strikes at all university clinics in North Rhine-Westphalia next Tuesday because of the wage dispute in the public service of the federal states. It concerns the clinics in Münster, Essen, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn and Aachen. The emergency care of patients is guaranteed, but in the case of regular work, such as preventive examinations, one must expect significant delays, Verdi spokesman Jan von Hagen said on Friday in Cologne.

With the warning strikes, the unions want to increase the pressure in the talks for about one million employees. The next round of negotiations will take place on February 28 in Potsdam. Verdi and the civil servants' association dbb demand six percent wageincreasefor the employees of the states other than Hesse, but at least 200 euros more per month. They point to bubbling tax revenues. The states rejectsthe demands as excessive.

Last September, a conflict over better working conditions at the university hospitals in Düsseldorf and Essen was settled. Verdi and the hospital management had agreed in a conciliation procedure on the hiring of additional personnel. In the course of this dispute, 52 days of strike action had taken place at Düsseldorf University Hospital alone. About 3000 operations there had to be cancelled or postponed.
