Unusual real estate Wanted: Lord of the castle

Vilich · Ferdinand Freiherr von Loë is moving to Bavaria. He is selling his castle, Burg Lede in Vilich for 1.7 million euros.

Burg Lede is for sale. The German word “Burg” means castle, typically from the medieval period. Lord of the castle, Ferdinand Freiherr von Loë has enlisted a real estate agent to help him target a buyer. Some interested parties have come for a showing and expressed interest, but so far, that is all. The castle owner is selling the property because he wants to move to Bavaria, where part of his family lives. As well, he says, “I have lived here for 30 years now and need a change of location.

I think that after such a long time, one can quietly say that. We have felt very comfortable here.” Since his daughter is also not interested in staying permanently at the castle, he wants to sell the historical building to someone who will either use it privately or for business purposes. It’s important to him that the property remains an integral part of the historical center of Vilich. The 54-year-old owner regrets that the sale is taking so long because he cannot guarantee all future bookings to his clients.

The castle is popular for weddings, company celebrations, wine tastings and seminars. Since the castle is under historical preservation orders and repairs are always required, the new owner must have a passion for historical walls and other challenges that come with maintaining such an old building. The family has been living in the castle since 1928. At that time, the great-grandmother of Ferdinand von Loë acquired the noble property on the outskirts between Vilich and Geislar.

"The origin of the castle probably dates back to the Franconian period around the year 740. Only parts of the castle from the Roman period around 1200 are visible," says Loë. The castle has some quite impressive features: 800 square meters of living space, surrounded by a four-hectare park with old trees and works of art. The purchase price is 1.7 million euro.
