Air Berlin aircraft Passengers discover hole in plane in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf · Early Sunday evening, an Air Berlin flight was scheduled to depart Düsseldorf for Stuttgart. But passengers discovered a hole in the aircraft and refused to fly.

As reported by Express newspaper, an incident surrounding an aircraft took place at Düsseldorf Airport on Sunday evening at around 5:35 pm. Around 70 passengers were to fly to Stuttgart on flight AB 6842, when they discovered a hole in the machine.

In a conversation with Express, a passenger reported that he and other fellow passengers had noticed the hole when they were boarding. They immediately made the crew aware of their finding. According to Express, the crew tried to calm the passengers and assure them that everything was fine and that the machine was in order for the flight.

The passengers boycotted the departure and left the aircraft. Only after some time did the captain also leave the plane. Passengers were asked to go back to the terminal and were able to leave on another aircraft to Stuttgart about two and a half hours later.

Air Berlin comments on the incident

Responding to an inquiry from Express, Air Berlin said the pilot had already known about the aircraft condition and had reported it as not fit to fly. At the time, however, he had not yet notified the crew, which led to the misunderstanding.

The aircraft was a machine of the Italian charter company Mistral Air, which belongs to Air Berlin and also to the “OneWorld” group.
