Today’s Unification Day and the following weekend are upon us – exhibitions at the Kunstmuseum, music and theatre events, and the 22nd Bonnfest await….

West Side Story at the Opera Bonn

The world-famous musical based on the idea of Jerome Robbins has found its way to the stage of the Bonn Opera. West Side Story was inspired by the story of the Romeo-and-Julia theme: two young lovers belonging to hostile groups. Leonard Berstein's music combines jazz and dance music from the 1950s and brings well-known songs such as "Tonight" and "I Feel Pretty" to Bonn Opera.

Young Painting in Germany

As part of the exhibition "Jetzt!", paintings by 53 artists of the younger generation will be shown in the Kunstmuseum Bonn. Around 500 works can also be seen in museums in Chemnitz, Wiesbaden and Hamburg. The exhibition project is intended to provide a cross-section of young painting and determine the current state of the media.

Experimenting for children in the Museum Bonn

Our everyday life can raise many different questions: What happens if the toilet paper tears and is there armor made of paper? What fits in a small ladies' handbag? The interactive experimental exhibition for families in the Deutsches Museum Bonn deals with the question "Is that possible?" and lets visitors find out the answers themselves in an entertaining way. The exhibition of the LVR Industrial Museum ends with a large quiz show in which children, young people and adults can test their knowledge.

Open Mosque Day

Since 1997 the mosques have been opened nationwide for everyone on Unification Day in Germany, and the Bonn mosque community has also been inviting tours and discussions. The Turkish-Islamic Union of the Institute for Religion (Ditib) would like to express its solidarity with non-Muslim people on the day of reunification. This year's Day of the Mosque will take place under the theme "People make a home. What is home?“.

Family Malentes 80's Party

The Theaterpalast returns the 80s from Wednesday to Friday under the motto "99 balloons". You can expect the hits of the 80s as well as colourful costumes and hairstyles.

Darts tournament for a good cause

In the Brückenforum there is a charity dart tournament for everyone who enjoys playing darts. The proceeds go to the Bonner Förderkreis für krebskranke Kinder und Jugendliche.

Bonnfest 2019

For the 22nd time, the streets of Bonn city centre will be turned into festival miles with numerous exhibitors as part of the Bonn Festival. Two stages on Marktplatz and Münsterplatz offer shows, music and entertainment. After last year's premiere, various wines will once again be on offer on Friedrichstraße. The festival will open on Friday at 6 pm on Münsterplatz with music by various artists. At the same time, the orchestra of the collegium musicum and the band Münchener Freiheit will play at 8.30 pm in Bonn University.

Dottendorf Jazz Night

As part of the Dottendorf Jazz Night, The Soulfisticated People will play in the centre of Dottendorf. According to keyboarder and soul singer Yassmo soul music belongs to the "core of the human being". Together with his band he creates soulful music for every audience.

Flic Flac presents "PUNXXX"

Just in time for its 30th anniversary, Flic Flac once again proves with the new show "PUNXXX" that he is "not just any circus", and promises rebellious entertainment.

"Unknown Festival" at Bonnfest

On Friedensplatz the Unknown Festival with electronic dance music takes place for the first time. Tobias Nallinger and Tim Biedinger would like to give electro fans the opportunity to visit an event with purely electronic music. It is important for the two young entrepreneurs to present a mix of music, light and decoration - the theme of the BonnFest will be "Jungle" and "Temple". DJ's from all over Germany will be presenting their sound. With this, city-marketing wants to attract especially younger guests.

Nature photo competition "Glanzlichter" (highlights)

Until 6 January 2020, the Koenig Museum will be exhibiting the winning photos from Germany's largest nature photography competition "Glanzlichter 2019". This year over 18,600 photos were submitted by photographers from around 40 countries.

Travestieshow Ham & Egg

50 Years of Woodstock Festival Celebration

For the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, „Ten Years After“ bring their Bluesrock to the stage of Bonner Harmonie. The British band was founded in 1967 by Leo Lyons and Alvin Lee and their performance was part of the world-famous festival in 1969. The group's name is a tribute to Elvis Presley.

Open Sunday at Bonnfest 2019

During the Bonnfest the shops will be open on Sunday from 1 pm to 6.30 pm. There will also be music and dance shows on the Marktplatz and Münsterplatz. The choir collegium musicum of the University of Bonn will conclude with the "Ode to Joy" on stage at the Old Town Hall.

Eifel Bunker Tour

Three nuclear shelters in North Rhine-Westphalia can be visited as part of a day tour. Among them are the government bunker in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and the bunkers in Kall and Merchernich. The tour looks at the history of the nuclear bunkers and the crisis management at that time, with a guide.

Paddington Bear's first concert
