Even though the construction works will mean restrictions, many commuters have been waiting for the UN Campus stop to finally be completed. The city of Bonn’s civil engineering department began widening the footpath and cycle path on both sides of the station on Monday.

Roofed bike and ride facilities will also be installed near the entrances to the stop between the platform and the cycle path. On the east side, 64 bicycle parking spaces will be installed in addition to the eight places for the Nextbike bicycle rental service and 160 bicycle parking spaces will be built on the west side of the stop.

The path from the stop to Moselweg/Gierenweg will also be extended and will have to be closed during the construction period. Pedestrians and cyclists will have to use the diversion along Rheinweg.

The stop has been in operation since the Climate Conference in 2018 but there had been no notification on funding for the remaining works. The construction works are to be completed by 21 December. The construction costs amount to around 540,000 Euros.
