Increase for Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district Where the population density is highest

Bonn · The population of Bonn has continued to increase compared to 2011. More than 15,000 people have been added since then. There are also changes in the Rhine-Sieg district.

According to the NRW State Statistical Office, 323,122 people currently live in Bonn (as of 30 July 2017). In 2011 it was only 307,530, meaning the number has increased by 15,592 in recent years. The federal city now has a population density of 2291 people per square kilometre.

In the Rhine-Sieg district, Troisdorf remains the town with the most inhabitants (74,659) followed by Sankt Augustin (56,045), Bornheim (47,936) and Hennef (47,377). Then comes the Siegburg city area with 41,239 inhabitants.

However, Siegburg is well ahead in terms of population growth. 2430 people have been added since 2011. Only Hennef exceeds this with 2440 additional citizens. By contrast, the similar sized cities of Bornheim (1616 more) or Königswinter (974 more) only achieved a relatively small increase in their population. The only area in the Rhine-Sieg district with diminishing numbers is Eitdorf.

Positive migration movements in NRW

At the end of June 2017, a total of 17,894,182 people lived in North-Rhine Westphalia. Of these, 50.9 per cent were women. According to Information and Technik Nordrhein-Westfalen, the official statistical centre for the state, the population was therefore higher than a year earlier by 18,369 residents (an increase of 0.1 per cent).

The statisticians said the increase resulted from a positive balance in migratory movement: 27,556 more people moved to North-Rhine Westphalia than left the state in the same period.
