BONN/REGION · The circus is coming to town, along with a wine festival this weekend, an arts and crafts fair, and classical music. For a rainy day, the Playmobil exhibition at the Deutsches Museum Bonn might be a good choice.

Circus Roncalli in Bonn

"Storyteller: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow". The German circus has a long tradition in Germany, founded in 1976. Two years ago, Circus Roncalli took animals out of its program, and is now a troupe of 120 artists and clowns. It is back in the big tent in Bonn once again this season and will run through June. The circus tent is situated in the Stadtgarten near the university. Expect family entertainment with breathtaking moments provided by the artists and acrobats.

GoVinum wine festival

Bad Godesberg welcomes its first GoVinum wine festival this weekend from May 10 - 12. Wines from the Ahr, Nahe, Mosel and Rheinhessen will be on offer at wine stands in Bad Godesberg city center. Visitors can also enjoy French specialty foods and live music. On Saturday, there will be a performance by the Bad Godesberg dance school at 6:30 pm. The weekend event is put on by Bad Godesberg City Marketing.

Playmobil special exhibition

Playmobil at Deutsches Museum Bonn: This special exhibition of Playmobil technical history features thousands of Playmobil figures. Hamburg artist Oliver Schaffer stages impressive Playmobil landscapes which highlight the main themes of the museum, science and technology. From an airport to a car factory to space travel, it’s all there. Visitors can also see how Playmobil figures are made. Playmobil began in 1974 and ever since then, the colorful plastic figures have been been a part of creative play for many children.

HofArt in Wachtberg

This arts and crafts fair offers many handmade originals for visitors looking for something unique to take home. It takes place in a rural and rustic setting in Wachtberg, and includes musical entertainment with the Ruckes Vintage Band.

Bonn Master Concert

The 146th Bonn Master Concert will take place in the auditorium of the Bonn Kunstmuseum (Art Museum). The guest is Spanish guitarist Marco Socías, who received a professorial chair in guitar at the age of 21. The musician, born in Malaga in 1966, has made eight albums and performed concerts in 40 countries. In Bonn he interprets compositions by John Dowland, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Federico Moreno Torroba, Julián Bautista and Regino Sainz de la Maza. Music media praise his "sensitive playing and a lively stage presence".

Concert with Anne-Sophie Mutter

Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Vienna-Berlin Chamber Orchestra: The German violinist and four-time Grammy Award winner comes to Cologne this weekend for a concert where she will play music from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Her 2019 concert calendar is booked with performances in Asia, Europe, and North and South America, showing her musical versatility and international prominence in classical music.

"Taken out of the fire": 86th remembrance of the book burning

In remembrance of the burning of books by the Hitler regime, the Bonn Memorial, in collaboration with the Literaturhaus Bonn and the General Student Committee (AStA), commemorates authors whose works went up in flames on May 10, 1933 on Bonn's Marktplatz in the city center. After the commemoration, the books will be given away to the public. The treasure chest is then filled with new books and closed again until next year.

"Duets" by Bonn Players

“Duets” will be performed by the Bonn Players, an English-language theater group. The play from Peter Quilter is about four sets of characters at four critical moments. It offers a humorous look into the chaotic world of love and relationships and is “a hilarious tribute to the strength and madness of the human heart.” Tickets cost 20 euros for adults and 15 euros for students.

A Special Relationship from/with Tony Durham & Andy Valvur
