Weekend November 10 - 12 What’s happening in Bonn?

Bonn/Region · Carnival is a big tradition in the Rhineland and this Saturday, the 11th day of the 11th month at 11:11 am, carnival-goers will be in city centers swaying to the music. It promises to be an especially international crowd in Bonn this time around. Join in the fun, have a Kölsch and get a taste of the carnival season to come!

Climate Tour Bonn: Greenwalker tour in English on the theme: "Using mobile phones fairly", everyone is invited to meet at the Beethoven monument on Münsterplatz at 3pm, sponsored by the City of Bonn in conjunction with the climate conference

Bonn Festival: On Friday, there will be 12 events - concerts, theater, comedy and parties at 11 locations for one price (€9.90). The festival was planned to take place during the Cop 23 for international and local visitors alike. One of the acts is the band Mr. Matt & the Mad Sonix - moderated in English, performing hits from film & television at Cult 41 (Hochstadenring 41) from 8 - 10pm. “Time After Time” is a dance party event with a different decade of music every hour, at midnight: 70’s, 1 am: 80’s, 2 am: 90’s and on it goes, with DJs and video artistry, at the Brückenforum (Friedrich-Breuer-Str. 17). The Night Watchman: Tour in English on Nov. 10, Friday at 7pm. Travel with the night watchman through Bonn. A walk through the darker, wilder sides of the city. These were dangerous times; apart from dealing with the normal rabble and riff-raff in and around the city, the electoral capital of Bonn was threatened in the 17th century by war, fire and pestilence with the bubonic plague. Tour meets on Rheingasse at the corner of Brassertufer, 7pm and takes approximately 2 hours. €10-12

Where music cultures meet: As part of the UN Climate Conference, a cooperation of the Cultural Department of the City of Bonn and three cultural event organizers are hosting an international music festival from 7 to 10 November 2017 with Fiji and some of their international project partner cities and related partner associations. It runs from Tuesday to Friday, 7 to 10 November. The evening takes place in cooperation with the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn. Free entry. Pre-orders at veranstaltungen-museumsverbund@lvr.de . Bonn carnival opening session: Bonn carnival officially opens with a large gathering at the Marktplatz in Bonn city center. With music and entertainment and the Bonn carnival royalty, many carnival-goers will be in costume swaying to the music. Begins at 10:30 am with the official opening at exactly 11:11 am on the 11th day of the eleventh month

Bad Godesberg carnival opening session: Bad Godesberg carnival also opens with music and entertainment on stage for several hours, with carnival royalty, food and beverage stands and lots of carnival fans in costume; on Theaterplatz in Bad Godesberg city center, official opening celebrated at 11:11 am

International Mineral and Fossil Exchange Bonn: 30 exhibitors present their treasures and rare minerals and fossils; from the Mineral and Fossil Friends of Bonn; in the auditorium of the Johannes-Rau School, Bad Godesberg, Albertus-Magnus-Str. 21, 10am - 5pm, (0228) 777590

Cologne

Pappnassparty (A “fools” carnival party): Traditional opening of carnival season with live music and party DJ’s, Gaffel am Dom, at the Cologne Central Station square, 9:11 am, tickets are €15 and available only on location. All bags will be checked.

Elfter im Elften (11th of the 11th): Opening of carnival season at 11:11 am at Heumarkt in the Atlstadt (Old Town), with music from the local Kölsch scene, and thousands of carnival fans excited about the start of the carnival season -many in carnival attire. Since 2016/2017, these items are banned from the area: backpacks and travel bags, glasses and bottles, tables, chairs and wagons. At Lanxess Arena, there will also be a huge show with 18 Kölsch bands, begins at 7:45 pm, tickets €41-45.
