BONN/REGION · A Street Food Fest, a historic wine festival in a small town, silent films set to music under the summer night skies, jazz and a Johnny Cash tribute. These are just a few of the things going on this late summer weekend in and around Bonn.

Friday, August 17

BONN

  • Street Food Festival: 25 regional and international vendors will offer their culinary creations at the Street Food Fest in Bad Godesberg city center this weekend. Organizers promise a gathering of many people from different countries and everything from American Philly-cheese steak sandwiches to Mexican touareg wraps as well as vegetarian and vegan specialties. Dishes are prepared freshly while visitors look on, music is also in the mix. Open Friday 5 - 10pm, Saturday 12 to 10pm and Sunday 12 to 7pm, Theaterplatz
  • 34th International Silent Film Days: See classic and rare silent films in an open air setting, set to live music, "Wagon Tracks" from 1919 is the story of a group of settlers traveling across the desert along the Santa Fe Trail in their covered wagons when the leader’s brother is murdered, 9 pm. "Opium" from 1918 is about an English doctor on a visit to China and India, and his research into the effects of opium, 10.30 pm, Arcade Courtyard of the University, An der Schlosskirche, film festival runs through August 26
  • Stadtgartenkonzerte (City Garden Concerts): JMO, World Jazz Griot, 7pm; Ler.che (Astatine) featuring Nicolas Simion, modern folk-jazz, 8.30 pm, Stadtgarten at the Alten Zoll, Adenauerallee

  • Texas Heat featuring Pure Cash: "Tribute to Johnny Cash" for everyone who is a fan of the legendary musician, Beer garden of the Park Restaurant Rheinaue, Ludwig-Erhard-Allee 20, 7.30pm, (0228) 374030

  • Historic Wine festival: This event in Heimersheim is around 25 minutes south of Bonn. With ladies of the castle, knights, craftsman, jugglers and musicians, visitors can experience this historic wine fest near Bad Neuenahr. On Friday at 9.30 pm, there is a “battle for the crown” (for wine fest queen) on the stage at Marktplatz. On Saturday 3.30 to 4.30pm , there is a duel with the knights (also at Marktplatz), and on Sunday from 2.30 to 5pm, a wine festival parade winds through the narrow streets of Heimersheim. The website lists the opening on August 17 at 6pm and closing on August 19 at 11.59pm. Admission fee on Friday: 7 euros, Saturday: 6 euros, Sunday: 5 euros.   • International Silent Film Days: "The Battle of the Century” from 1927 (USA) a legendary comic classic with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in a cake fight, “FAUST”, a German film from 1926 based on what many consider one of the greatest works of German literature, Arcade Courtyard of the University, An der Schlosskirche, 9pm
  • Stephan Masurs variety entertainment show: It’s the story of a brother and sister who get lost along the way and flee to a castle.
