BONN/REGION · It’s high carnival weekend with parties, parades and music filling Bonn, Cologne and the Rhineland. The so-called “Fifth Season” is the favorite time of year for many. Join in the fun, put on some colorful garb and cheer “Alaaf”!

  • Drachenburg Castle Lights: The castle comes to life with colorful illuminations, creating a mystic atmosphere. Experience Schloss Drachenburg and the also illuminated Nibelungenhalle below the castle. From the castle terraces you can enjoy the sparkling lights of Bonn and Cologne. It runs from 26 January to 25 February, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5 to 10pm. Adults pay nine euros, children over six pay four euros. Sunday, February 11

BONN

  • Carnival festivities in Bonn city center: The center of Bonn carnival activities on Sunday will be at Marktplatz and the old town hall in the city center. It begins with a large gathering of the honor guard from 11am; swearing in of the new recruits of the City Soldier Corps at 12pm; gathering of the city soldiers from 2pm; and storming of the town hall from 3pm (the parade is on Monday)
  • Carnival festivities in Bad Godesberg: The center of Bad Godesberg festivities will begin at the town hall on Kurfürstallee 6 with the storming of the town hall by the Godesberg royalty couple at 12pm. The Bavarian Public Prosecutor’s office seized the art collection of Cornelius Gurlitt (1932–2014), causing an international sensation when it was made public in November 2013.
