November 2 - 4 : Weekend tips for Bonn and the region

Bonn will not only be shining this weekend; it will also be home to the “One World Festival Bonn” - where everyone is invited to take part! But vintage sneaker fans will want to make a little trip to Cologne.

“Bonn shines” 2018

Even though darkness is setting in early on these chilly autumn evenings, Bonn will be aglow in warm lights this weekend as “Bonn Shines” creates a special atmosphere in the city. “Bonn Leuchtet” is the German name of the event and it will run from Friday, November 2 through Sunday, November, 4. Businesses will showcase their storefront windows with spotlights and many attractions will be illuminated throughout the inner city. Street Food trucks will provide for delicious dishes and a European market will attract many.

On Sunday, stores will be open from 1- 6 p.m. (yes, Sunday shopping!). Münsterplatz, Marktplatz and Friedensplatz, Bonn inner city.

One World Festival Bonn

"One World Festival Bonn" 2018 is a festival organized by volunteers to promote intercultural diversity, help refugees and homeless people, and promote a mutual understanding between different cultures and nationalities. Many local organizations, initiatives and volunteers make the event possible. Music is the focus of the festival because it is viewed as a vehicle for intercultural exchange. It begins at 1pm on Saturday at the Brückenforum with everything from Shanty Sound to a traditional Indonesian band, klezmer-reggae and much more until the wee hours. Entrance is free but donations are kindly requested.

You can also join in a One World parade that starts at 12:30pm on Saturday at Friedensplatz.

Bonner Wiesnfest

So you didn’t make it to Munich for Oktoberfest? Here’s a chance to make it up. The Bonner Wiesnfest will transform the Telekom Dome into an Oktoberfest party atmosphere, with many popular German “Schlager” singers taking center stage to get everyone in a great mood. Don’t forget to wear your dirndl or lederhosen if you have them!

Antique and flea market

This Sunday, visitors can wind their way through the inner city of Bad Godesberg as they stroll through the antique and flea market. Who knows what treasures or bargains are waiting to be found!

Concert with VoicesInTime and University of Bonn Choir

The Munich-based VoicesInTime rock and jazz choir conducted by Stefan Kalmer has been around since 1996. It has been on concert tours to China, Cuba, South Korea and Denmark and has taken first prize at the German Choir Competition and International Choir Competition in recent years. The sound is modern pop and jazz delivered fresh and crisp. This Saturday, VoicesInTime teams up with the jazz choir of the University of Bonn for a concert at the LVR-Landesmuseum. Admission is free of charge but donations are welcome.

Rock with Nerd School

Where other bands have a five to six-piece setup to bring a convincing rock sound to tape and stage, Thomas Castro Molina Crowe and Lars D.G. have always been content with their own four hands. No loops, no samples! Room-filling, complex and compact, this is used to describe the sound of the debut album. Now Nerd School is on tour with their second album "Blue Sky For White Lies”.

Bonn Klezmer Days

Klezmer music fans have an opportunity for some fine music this weekend. On Friday, the Trio Yas gives a concert “Get Up!” at 8pm. Guy Schalom from Great Britain (dance, percussion), Sanne Möricke from Holland (accordion), and Christian Dawid from Germany (tuba, clarinet) have performed in London, Vienna, Krakow and other international cities and are considered one of the most exciting groups in Jewish music. On Saturday, there is a dance workshop from 10am to 6pm with Guy Schalom and at 8pm a dance ball with the trio plus Georg Brinkmann (dance, clarinet).

Dutch band No Man’s Valley

No Man`s Valley is a band of brothers from the Netherlands. They play psychedelic blues-based organ Wave Rock and will be live at Kult 41 on Friday at 8pm, with GiiRL from Cologne as warm-up band. Hochstadenring 41, Bonn.

“Sneakerness” in Cologne

Brands, shops and private sellers from all over Europe come to Cologne to showcase and sell a superb selection of the latest, most rare and vintage sneakers. Visitors with a "Priority Ticket" have early access at 11:00 on Saturday. This ticket also includes access on Sunday at 12:00 and you will receive a goodie bag. Kids between 0-11 years old have free entry to the event, but must be accompanied/supervised by an adult at all times.

“Neville’s Island” from The Bonn Players

English theater brought to you by the Bonn Players. This play from Tim Firth will run from November 20 - 24 at the Brotfabrik in Beuel, Kreuzstrasse 16. It’s about four men who, in the course of their firm’s team-building exercise, become stranded on an island in the middle of the Lake District in England. Their shortcomings become clear when it comes to surviving in their “remote” surroundings. Thanksgiving Dinner: The American German Business Club (AGBC) invites members and friends to their annual Thanksgiving Dinner with a 3-course meal, including a traditional turkey and trimmings. Each year Americans in the U.S. celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday on the fourth Thursday of November.
