COLOGNE · A major demonstration in Cologne on Sunday is expected to result in traffic disruptions. Police are expecting around 25,000 people to march through Cologne.

Cologne police expect up to 25,000 participants at a demonstration in the city on Sunday. According to police, a public rally has been registered to take place at the Cologne-Deutz shipyard between 12 pm and 6 pm, in a run-up to the European elections. Various groups and coalitions plan to march from Chlodwigplatz, Roncalliplatz, Rudolfplatz and Kalk Kapelle to a public rally at Siegburger Straße starting at around 11 a.m.

Police advise that some streets will be closed off during the demonstration and rally, motorists should be prepared for traffic disruptions. Cologne law enforcement will publish up-to-date information about road closures and developments on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as on the home page of the Cologne police website. In addition, a telephone number has been set up for the public, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. : 0221/2297777.

For safety reasons it is prohibited to carry any glass, bottles or cans during the gathering at the Deutz shipyard and during the demonstration.
