Police looking for witnesses Unknown man pushes 76-year-old down stairs to the underground station

Cologne · On Thursday afternoon, an unknown man pushed a 76-year-old down the stairs to the underground station in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. The culprit escaped, the police are currently searching for him.

At approximately 2pm, the 76-year-old and his female companion were on the stairway at the underground station „Venloer Straße/Gürtel“. At the top of the stairs, an unknown man approached the senior citizen from behind and unexpectedly gave him a strong push between the shoulders. The older man lost his balance and fell down the steps, the police have reported. He suffered severe injuries and was brought to hospital.

Instead of looking after the injured senior, the culprit ran past the fallen man into the tunnel. The Criminal Investigation Department has taken up the investigation for grievous bodily harm.

It is suspected that the 76-year-old man was pushed on purpose, according to the current investigation. The information that the stairs were otherwise empty leads to this assumption.

The injured man and several eye witnesses have described the fugitive as approximately 25 years old with a southern European appearance and dark hair. He is said to be about 1.85 meters tall and slim. He was wearing dark trousers and a green bomber jacket. The police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the incident or can give information about the culprit.
