The death of the black American man George Floyd in the U.S. has ignited protests worldwide. On this coming Saturday, June 6, a protest against racism is planned at Münsterplatz in Bonn city center from 2 to 4 pm.
"In the wake of the worldwide protests following the murder of George Floyd, we would like to express our solidarity in Bonn with all those affected by racism and with all people who take to the streets against racism worldwide", the organizers Ute Baoum and Matt Sonnicksen explain the decision to hold the demonstration.
Those who want can dress in black. The organizers point out that a distance of one and a half meters must be maintained between protestors and a face mask must be worn. Police spokesman Michael Beyer responded to an inquiry, saying that about 100 participants were expected and that police officers would be on site.
Another demonstration is planned as well, having to do with the "Blockade of the rescue ship Alan Kurdi". It will begin on Saturday morning at 10 am on Münsterplatz. From there, the demonstrators will take the following route: Vivatsgasse, Friedensplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Bonngasse, Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz, Berliner Freiheit and Kennedybrücke. It is scheduled to end at 1 pm on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. The organizer expects around 100 participants. According to police, there may be temporary traffic disruptions as a result.
