Bonn UN Campus Train cancellations due to track closures

Bonn · A pedestrian underpass will be moved to its final position at the new Bonn UN Campus stop at the weekend. The line between Bonn main station and Mehlem will be closed from 5pm on Friday to 5am on Monday.

Deutsche Bahn says travellers should use tram lines 16 and 63 during the closure. The excavations are currently being prepared as far as possible while allowing trains to run.

Once the line is closed, the tracks will be removed and the site excavated enough for the pedestrian underpass to be inserted. The system for inserting the underpass will then be constructed. Deutsche Bahn says the underpass, with a total weight of 400 tonnes, will then be pushed into place.

Such extensive digging requires heavy machinery and the transport of large amounts of earth. This could lead to disruption around the building works and Deutsche Bahn is asking residents and drivers for their understanding.

A total of 7.9 million euros are being invested in the new Bonn UN Campus station, which should open at the end of 2017. The new station will provide an improved rail connection to the government quarter and around 4000 commuters and visitors are expected to use it each day. (Original text: ga.
