BERGHEIM In what police believe to be a tragic accident, three young people were found dead in a housing complex swimming pool near Cologne.
In a housing complex near Cologne, three lifeless bodies were found drifting in the swimming pool. Investigators are checking whether it might have been an electric shock that killed the two children and teenager. Police spokesperson Bernd Mauel said all indications at this time would suggest a tragic accident. Specialists from Düsseldorf have been brought in to investigate.
Only residents who live in the housing complex have access to the indoor swimming pool. It was a resident who first discovered the bodies at about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and called police. Following the tragedy, a crowd of people gathered at the pool. Police reported several hundred people gathering there in the afternoon. Emergency crisis counselors were at the scene.
Police speaker Mauel said they had requested a large number of back-up forces to help maintain peace and give some space. A police barrier had been put up and help was needed in maintaining it. “There are very emotional images here right now.”
