Bonn · Spring is approaching - and when the temperatures rise and the sun comes out, this motivates many in Bonn and the region to get out on their bikes. On some of the longer routes, there is much more to discover besides the Rhine and Siebengebirge. Here is an overview.

Rhineland Apple Route

The Rhineland Apple Route leads around Bonn through the largest fruit and vegetable growing area in North Rhine-Westphalia. The cycle course on the left side of the Rhine stretches for a total of 124 kilometers. Past fruit plantations and vegetable fields, the bike path leads through Alfter, Bornheim and the Swistttal valley, among other places, before the route turns back towards Bonn after passing Meckenheim. The circular route also offers the opportunity to learn more about agriculture and fruit growing at a total of twelve adventure stations.

Rhine Bicycle Path

For all endurance cyclists who like to ride for several days, the Rhine bike path offers the opportunity to explore the longest river in Germany and its surroundings. In over five stages it leads from Bad Honnef to Emmerich on the Dutch border. The first stage of the route is ideal for a day trip, passing Drachenfels and the castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust on the way to Cologne.

Sieg Bicycle Path

The Sieg bike path follows the river of the same name from Windeck to the mouth of the Rhine in Bonn. The 60 kilometer long route is easy to cycle, even with children, without major climbs and far away from road traffic. Somewhat off the beaten track, there are many opportunities for further leisure activities. Among other things, the treetop path Panarbora and the climbing forest of Hennef are in the vicinity.

Roman Cycle Tour

The people of Bonn have the chance to follow in the footsteps of the Romans - but on bicycle. On the circular route of about 15 kilometers, which has been planned by the city of Bonn, everything revolves around the history of the city during Roman times. Old kilns, gravestones, church remains, cranes and monuments can be found along the way, depicting an epoch of Bonn history.

Museum Route

For a short cultural trip through Bonn, the museum route is worthwhile. The route leads along the Bonn museum district for about twelve kilometers. The circular route begins and ends at the Markt in the city center and guides cyclists along the Museum Mile, where you can stop at the Haus der Geschichte, the Koenig Research Museum or the Bundeskunsthalle. Democracy Trail

The 42 kilometers of the Democracy Trail contain information along the way about current and past political events in Bonn. As the former capital of Germany, the city offers a wealth of historical sites and stories. Among others, the Villa Hammerschmidt and the Chancellor's bungalow are included along the route as landmarks. The starting point of the bike circuit is the Old Town Hall in the city center.

Baroque in and around Bonn

From the Beethoven House, along the Rhine to Bad Godesberg, up to the baroque garden of Gudenau Castle and back to Poppelsdorf Castle. The 36 kilometer long baroque bike path of the city of Bonn offers the possibility to reach many of the famous sights in and around Bonn by bike.
