Christmas day scare Suspicious item causes evacuation of Kameha Hotel

Bonn · The Kameha Hotel had to be vacated for a short time on Tuesday morning because a suspicious item was found. Around 150 people were evacuated.

On Christmas morning, there was major police action at the Kameha Grand Hotel. At around 10:45 am on Tuesday, the hotel was completely vacated because of a suspicious piece of luggage found in the basement. At first, the hotel could not link the suitcase to any guest staying at the hotel.

According to police spokesman Robert Scholten, in responding to a GA inquiry, the hotel had received a threat on Monday evening. When the suitcase was found on Tuesday morning with no apparent owner, the hotel initiated the evacuation. Police are now investigating the exact circumstances of the threat.

At 11:45 am, about one hour after the evacuation had been ordered, people were allowed back in the hotel. As it turned out, the luggage did belong to a hotel guest and it was filled only with clothes. It had presumably been cleared away by cleaning staff. A special police bomb squad did not have to be called in.

Hotel guests and all staff had been evacuated while police were investigating the incident. According to GA information, some of them were transported in public buses to the Marriott Hotel. Around 150 people were affected.
