Near Rosental street Stick-type incendiary bombs found at the Rhine river banks

Bonn · On Monday afternoon, munitions were found in the river bed of the Rhine near the Rosental street in Bonn-Castell. Three stick-type incendiary bombs were retrieved.

The bomb disposal team of the district government Düsseldorf retrieved three stick-type incendiary bombs on Monday afternoon on the left side of the Rhine river banks. A pedestrian found them, according to Markus Schmitz, spokesperson for the press team. The bombs, which were dropped by the British Royal Air Force during the Second World War, could be retrieved without any incidents.

The city council’s security staff was present during the operation. The city council asks all pedestrians to avoid walking on the unpaved, dry edge of the river bed because of further possible ammunition lying in between the stones and rocks.

A week ago, the bombdisposal team already retrieved a 110-kilogram heavy explosive grenade and other munitions which were exposed by the low water level.
