Due to the heavy rainfall at the beginning of February, not only in Bonn but also in the southern catchment area of the river, the Rhine level rose to 7.41 meters from January 27 (1.89 meters) to Thursday, February 6. The peak of the flooding was reached yesterday at 8:45 am. The level sank again beginning at 3 pm.

This means that last year's high water peak on March 18 was exceeded. At that time 6.43 meters were measured. An even higher water level was last observed on January 8 of 2018 when it reached 8.21 meters.

February has been extremely wet so far. In the first four days of the month, 34 liters per square meter of rain fell, which is already 87 percent of the rainfall of an average February. But there is also an aspect of beauty to the flooding in Bonn, as this impressive picture from the banks of the Rhine shows.
