Rhein im Flammen 2016 Record hotel bookings

Bonn · Fireworks over the Rhine are coming soon and a record number of guests have booked hotel rooms for the event.

Whether you are new to Bonn or have lived here for many years, Rhein im Flammen (Rhine in Flames) is a unique and festive event met with much anticipation. Boats fill the Rhine as fireworks light up the night sky. If the weather is nice, the Rheinaue is filled with spectators and residents host their first big parties of the summer. Bands play music and young people dance under the stars.

This year on Saturday, May 7, people will come from all over Germany to the big event in Bonn. Around 4,500 overnight stays in hotels have been booked for the occasion. According to Thomas von dem Bruch of Tourism & Congress for Bonn/Rhine-Sieg/Ahrweiler regions, 85 percent of the guests who plan to come to Rhine im Flammen will stay overnight. Last year it was 80 percent and in 2013, only 60 percent.

For those who want to be out on the water to see the fireworks, 45 ferries will be out on the river between Bonn and Linz. 12 of these are run by “Bonner Personen Schifffahrt”. About 70 places are still open at a cost of 125 euro each. Tourism & Congress also has some places left on their eight chartered boats. If you still want to snap up a ticket, they can be purchased at www.bonnticket.de
