Deutschland Tour : Professional cycling race will mean closed roads in Bonn and the region

On Thursday and Friday, professional cyclers on the Deutschland Tour will race through Bonn and the region. Motorists and those riding public buses will be affected by road closings. Here’s an overview.

The Deutschland Tour will ride through Bonn on Thursday and Friday, with an anticipated 132 professional cyclists. It will mean some road closings in the area. Riders are expected in Neustadt/Wied at around 2:30pm and from there, they will go through Hallerbach, Rederscheid, Bad Honnef, Königswinter and on to Bonn.

In the early afternoon, there may be some traffic restrictions to accommodate the racers. Affected are especially highways 252, 255 and 143. The cyclists will then navigate through streets in Hoholz, Ungarten, Niederholtorf, Ramersdorf, Limperich and Beuel in the city.

Between 2:30 and 4:30 pm, one can expect some road closings, and the Kennedy Bridge will also be closed off for a time. The section of road from Belderberg/Adenauerallee to Bundeskanzlerplatz will be closed from 5am until 8pm (This is the part of the B9 that takes you past the museums and into the city). Stockenstraße will already be closed on Wednesday due to preparation work.

On Friday, the racers will start out at 10:10am on Meckenheimer Allee. The road there will be closed from 5am until 2pm. In Ippendorf and Röttgen, there will be some road closures between 9 and 11am. The tour continues on through Meckenheim, Wachtberg, Grafschaft and Altenahr to Trier. In the late morning and at lunchtime, there may be traffic disruptions particularly on the national highways 257 and 267, as well as county roads 34 and 64 and highways 158, 123 and 261.

Bus lines affected on Thursday

In the direction of the Bonn central train station, there will be detours on lines 600, 601, 602, 604 and 605 because the Berliner Freiheit is closed.

Bus lines 606 and 607 traveling in the direction of Bonner Bogen will end on Heinrich-Konen-Strasse. As soon as the cyclists are in the street "Auf dem Grendt", the buses will be diverted via the Beuel train station.

When the cyclists enter Belderberg, there will be detours on lines 610, 611 and 630. In the direction of Bonn, the buses leave the UN Campus from the stop "Rheinaue Parkrestaurant".

Bus line 636 from Ramersdorf to Gielgen will not run between 3 and 4pm. Buses which travel through Konrad-Adenauer Platz in the direction of Beuel, will be running at a slower pace. Trains and tram traffic will stop briefly while cyclists race over the Kennedy Bridge. The same applies to bus traffic heading in the direction of Beuel.

Bus traffic on Friday

Bus lines 601, 602 and 603 traveling towards Venusberg, Waldberg and Röttgen will be diverted until 2pm. This applies to the area between “Poppelsdorfer Allee” and "Poppelsdorfer Platz". In the opposite direction towards Tannenbusch, Graurheindorf and Bechlinghoven, there will be a diversion from "Poppelsdorfer Platz" to the stop at the main central station.

There could also be some regular stops where lines 630, 631 and 632 are not able to service between 9 and 11am.
