Fare adjustment coming from the spring Politicians agree to higher taxi prices in Bonn

Bonn · Taxi fares in Bonn are expected to go up from the spring. On Thursday evening, the main political committee adopted a corresponding proposal by the Bonn Taxi Cooperative by a majority against the Bürger Bund Bonn and the Social Liberals.

The council will have the final word at its meeting on 7 February. Fares are to rise by an average of 3.5 per cent. As recently as March 2018, the city council agreed to an average increase of 2.8 per cent.

However, the decision at that time also included that future changes should be aligned with fare adjustments by the Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Transport Authority (VRS). The VRS increased its fares by an average of 3.5 per cent at the start of the year.

The bottom line is that a journey of five kilometres will, for example, cost 13 Euros in future instead of 12.61 Euros while a journey of 15 kilometres will cost the passenger nearly a Euro more. Claus Lenz from the Cooperative welcomed the decision. “Anything else would not have achieved our goal.” This is only a modest increase by comparison with the Rhine-Sieg district or Cologne, said Lenz.
