Bad Godesberg · A 56-year-old was seriously injured in an accident on the B9 in Bad Godesberg on Thursday evening. Witnesses stated that two young motorists had been racing.

The 56-year-old driver of a VW bus was seriously injured in an accident on the B9 in Bad Godesberg. According to police, he had been driving on the B9 towards the city at around 9:50pm. At the same time, two 20-year-olds were driving their cars on the B9 in the same direction. According to eyewitness accounts, they did not adhere to the 70 km/h speed limit, and passed each other, changing lanes several times.

Both drivers overtook the VW bus at Godesberger Allee 136, causing the 56-year-old to lose control of his vehicle and swerve off the road to the left. His car crashed into an overhead line mast and he was seriously injured. The 56-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police secured the vehicles of the two 20-year-olds and confiscated their driver’s licenses. Officers are now checking into whether an illegal race took place. They had to close off the B9 following the accident. Damage was estimated at 9,000 euros.
