The police in North Rhine-Westphalia have managed to strike a blow against a gang of thieves who had stolen several million euros from money transporters and ATMs over the past few years. A 21-year-old woman was arrested in Wachtberg.

Cracking down on a criminal gang, police in Bonn arrested a 21-year-old woman from Wachtberg during a house search. According to police, she is in custody and suspected of having stolen large sums of money from money transporters and ATMs together with other suspects. According to the Bonn police, the apartment in Wachtberg was searched last Tuesday.

The public prosecutor's office in Essen and police in Recklinghausen announced on Thursday that, after months of investigations, several persons had been arrested and 15 apartments and business premises in Recklinghausen, Marl, Düsseldorf, Ratingen, Cologne and Bonn searched.

In addition to the 21-year-old Wachtberg woman, police apprehended six men between the ages of 26 and 44 from Recklinghausen, Cologne and Marl. An arrest warrant was issued against them. One of the men who had been taken into custody had fled from Essen, but was arrested again a few hours later in Düsseldorf. The suspects are said to have stolen from money transporters in Dortmund and Werle on November 10, 2011 and June 23, 2017. According to the police, they copied keys, cracked codes and seized sums of euros in the millions. In addition, they are accused of stealing from a supermarket chain in the Westphalian city of Gronau on December 19, 2017 while disguised as money carriers.

According to the police, the investigators assume that the gang members specialized in security technology and had insider knowledge in their preparations. In addition to collecting evidence, the searches also resulted in the confiscation of six figures worth of drugs, expensive cars, several kilograms of gold, jewelry, expensive watches, weapons and cash. The police also discovered a plantation of marijuana plants at an address in Cologne.
