On Thursday afternoon, the load of a lorry caught fire on Kesselgasse in downtown Bonn. For reasons not yet clarified, the paper freight in the truck body was ignited. The driver of the vehicle loaded with about ten cubic metres of shredded paper had noticed smoke that had penetrated from the loading area of the truck and immediately alerted the fire brigade.

According to the emergency services, an extinguishing unit with a total of 14 personnel was on site from 2.30 p.m. and was able to quench the fire after just under an hour. The truck was first unloaded by hand and the paper was then extinguished outdoors. The paper load was then transported away in a container specially provided by the fire brigade. The clean-up work was completed around 5.30 pm.

While the extinguishing work was being carried out the traffic in the area of the source of the fire in the afternoon was also considerably impaired. In addition to the Kesselgasse, a lane on Oxfordstrasse in the direction of Kennedy Bridge was temporarily closed.
