Vandals damage giant Christmas figure Nutcracker surgery

Ahrweiler · The giant nutcracker which stands at the Ahrweiler city gate during the Christmas season was damaged in an act of vandalism. It is now in a carpenter's workshop for repair.

Vandals tipped over a giant wooden nutcracker which stands in front of the Ahrweiler city gate during the Christmas season. It caused major damage to the holiday character. Since Tuesday, the nutcracker has been lying on the "operating table" of Heinz-Peter Hoppe's carpenter shop in Ahrweiler.

As carpenter Stefan Zimmermann explained, he is repairing the giant figure for the Ahrweiler advertising association and it is expected to take a good four to five hours of work. "We are confident that the patient will have made a complete recovery by the first Advent," Zimmermann told the GA, hoping that the nutcrackers at the other city gates will be spared from vandalism.
