Extinction Rebellion demonstrate in city centre

Environmental activists from the Extinction Rebellion group held a peaceful demonstration on Saturday afternoon at several locations in the city. According to police, around 100 people took part, meeting at Münsterplatz in front of the Postbank and moving back to Münsterplatz via several stations through the central city streets. There were no traffic obstructions during the rally. Extinction Rebellion had also demonstrated in Bonn city centre last year in November when around 40 participants marched through the streets.

New tenant for beach bar in Bonn-Ossendorf

A new leaseholder has been selected for the beach bar in Beuel for the period up to 2023. Event manager Jörg Grünewald from Düsseldorf applied for the lease together with the previous operator Oliver Klemp who also runs “Hommage", the bar at the Bonn opera house. The new concept includes an extensive green area which will be developed and built with a landscape architect, using mainly natural building materials and avoiding artificial materials as far as possible. "We want to provide the people of Bonn with a real oasis", explains Grünewald. Sport will also be an important feature at "Bikini Beach". Visitors to the new beach bar will be able to use a boules court, while Bonn studios will have the opportunity to book a yoga platform free of charge. Grünewald is also planning a heated, roofed area, reminiscent of a greenhouse. This will house the gastronomic heart of the bar, serving food from the Cologne cult streetfood provider "Bad Ape", including vegetarian and vegan dishes. The "Greenhouse" will also be available to hire for external events and offers seating for up to 50 people.

The beach bar on the Oberkassel bank of the Rhine will not be permanent because the lease is only valid until the construction site for the new S13 line from Troisdorf to Oberkassel on Karl-Duwe-Strasse has been set up. Then the access road for the beach bar will be removed.

Plans to improve 66 tram line

The planning committee has decided in favour of widening Sankt Augustiner Straße at the Combahnfriedhof in Beuel. The city administration is to prepare a draft urban development plan. Currently on this section of road the trams have to share the lanes with cars for several hundred meters, which causes delays. Under the new plans, the trams would have their own lane in both directions. The road cross-section is to be widened from 14.90 metres to 22.60 metres. Cars would be left with one lane in each direction. The pavements would be widened to 2.50 meters each and cyclists would have a lane 1.85 metres wide in both directions. At the same time as the planning, the city administration is to check the validity of the drafts under the Passenger Transportation Act and negotiate with the owners of the land.
