The Environmental Agency confirms wolf attacks in the Rhein-Sieg district

RHEIN-SIEG DISTRICT. The first confirmed attack of livestock by a wolf has occurred in Much. Sheep farmers from the Rhein-Sieg district are reacting and have now formed a working group.

The first attack of livestock by a wolf in Much has now been confirmed by the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection NRW (LANUV). The proof came from genetic tests of a saliva sample from a sheep attacked on 1 August. On 6 June, a sheep was attacked in Hennef; however, there was no unequivocal proof that it by a wolf. The four sheep attacked in two incidents in Engelskirchen in June have been confirmed. The confirmation of the attacks on two calves on 23 August in Königswinter and one sheep on 30 August in Much is still pending.

Sheep farmers from the Rhein-Sieg district have now formed a working group. The goal is to establish clear proof of the predator. Livestock owners are entitled to compensation if it can be proven that the wounds were caused by a wolf.

Residents complain of a rat plague in Pennenfeld

PENNENFELD: A GA reader, who doesn't want to read his name in the newspaper describes a "dramatic rat plague" in Pennenfeld, especially at Max-Planckstraße, Kortrijkerstraße, Mallwitzstraße and Paracelsusstraße – "rats run around in broad daylight every day. Many of the animals have apparently lost their shyness towards humans and, when approached, only sluggishly seek shelter”, he describes. One reason for the high rat population might be littering and improved street cleaning could be a remedy. It is unknown how many rats there are in Bad Godesberg; however, the number of animals sighted in public areas such as parks or streets and then reported by the population is about 250 a year. To be able to fight the rats successfully, the city is requesting the assistance of the residents. By reporting the rodents – or taking action themselves on their own property.

Whoever sees aboveground rats can call 02 28/77 25 45 and whoever suspects that rodents are in the sewer system or drains should call 02 28/77 41 40.

Bonn World Conference Center Bonn scandal likely to lead to damages suit

BONN. The World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) scandal in Bonn will probably lead to a lawsuit for damages against former mayor of Bonn Bärbel Dieckmann (SPD) and former city director Arno Hübner (CDU). According to GA information, the CDU also rejects mediation.

According to information from the General-Anzeiger, the CDU Council fraction decided with a clear majority in its internal meeting on Monday evening to reject mediation. As reported, last year the city council decided by a large majority to sue both Dieckmann and Hübner for one million euros each for the construction scandal surrounding the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB). The FDP, the Left and the Bürger Bund have already announced that they want a public investigation in court. No final decision has yet been made within the Green faction. Among other things, politicians are hoping to find out how much and when Dieckmann and WCCB project officer Arno Hübner knew about the lack of creditworthiness of WCCB investor Man-Ki Kim.
