Changes from Monday New stairs accessible at Bonner Loch

Bonn · The pedestrian routes in front of the main train station will change during the course of today, Monday.

Construction manager Christian van de Loo told the GA that Ten Brinke, the investor in the Maximilian-Center (formerly the Südüberbauung), is opening a staircase that leads to Poststraße. Commuters using the underpass will then no longer be able to access the city centre via the Bonner Loch entrance. The reason behind this planned change is the ongoing construction of the Nordfeld site.

The Düsseldorf investors “Die Developer” will cover the rest of the Bonner Loch for the adjacent Urban Soul construction project. Disabled access to the city has no longer been possible via the lift on the lower level of the Bonner Loch for several weeks, but rather via the Deutsche Bahn lifts. Ten Brinke will remove the underground and above-ground construction fences accordingly to allow access to the new staircase.

Ten Brinke’s contractors have started work in the area of Maximilianstraße that has been closed since Tuesday. Van der Loo says a section of the street will be dug up there. This will create a foundation on which the construction equipment to be used can be better placed. As soon as the preparatory measures are completed, around ten bore piles will be placed up to 28 metres deep in the ground. This piles wall is meant to protect the Volksbank and the building housing an organic supermarket (the former Gangolf cinema).

Ten Brinke is erecting an underground building on this corner, which will be accessible through the main station tunnels after it is completed. The construction period is three months. During this time, Maximilianstraße and the city ring will remain closed. The main station will remain accessible via Quantiusstraße and the south underpass.
