Restaurant tips : New opening as "Borgers LieblingsWein"

A mother-daughter duo is again moving into the modern Rüngsdorf villa that used to house Reinart’s. Wine and coffee lovers in particular will get their money’s worth with new owner Martina Borgers and her daughter Laura.

For a good decade, Christine Reinart and her daughter Sandra ran Reinart’s in a modern villa in Rüngsdorf. As chance would have it, the new owners have the same family relationship. With a new name – Borgers LieblingsWein – and concept, the new owner Martina Borgers and her daughter Laura want to make the location a meeting place for all wine and coffee lovers. In the interior, with its refreshingly modern floral wallpaper, there is seating for 24 guests on aqua-coloured leather upholstery, and there are 10 additional seats on the garden terrace.

Martina Borgers comes from the Ahr. She studied hotel management at the Steigenberger Bad Neuenahr and then worked in upmarket hotels in London, Montreux (Switzerland) and in Kleinwalsertal in Austria. “I have always wanted to create my own charming place for hospitality,” says the likeable boss.

Her philosophy? “In Borgers LieblingsWein, people should meet at any time of the day for a glass of wine or a coffee, like in a Parisian bistro, a café in Rome or a tapas bar in San Sebastian.” In her events calendar she is planning wine tastings, singing and girls’ evenings as well as readings.

The wine list has 23 wines by the glass (0.2l from Euro 5.50) such as the sauvignon blanc from the organic vineyard Pflüger (Pfalz) for Euro 7.20 or the chardonnay terroir from La Grange (Languedoc) for Euro 6.60. There are also 37 bottles of wine from Euro 16.50 – for example, pinot gris from Dr Heger (Baden) for Euro 24 and Les Cépages Viognier from Michel Gassier (Rhône) for Euro 18.50.

The lovingly arranged dishes are made to accompany wine: ham and salami platters with Hobel cheese and bread (small Euro 7.90, large Euro 13), panini, for example with cow’s milk mozzarella, tomatoes and rocket, for five Euros each, baked goat’s cheese with walnuts and bread for Euro 7.90. The soups (Euro 5.60 including a second helping) change daily and are mostly vegan and the espresso is made using an Italian portafilter machine from Rocket.
