On Tuesday afternoon, a family suffered serious injuries in a traffic accident on the A4 motorway near Frechen-Nord. According to initial findings, the 46-year-old father and his 38-year-old wife, 18-year-old daughter and eleven-year-old son were on their way to Cologne when they hit a semi-truck at the junction. The vehicle overturned after the collision.
According to witnesses, a 39-year-old truck driver is said to have switched from the lane to the middle lane around 4.15 p.m. before the collision. The family's Ford hurled to the left against the concrete wall, overturned and remained on its roof. After a short period of full closure, the highway police led the traffic past the accident site.
While the accident was being recorded, the police stopped a 36-year-old Audi driver who had driven his rental car through the rescue lane to the scene of the accident. He is now facing fines and proceedings.
