Düsseldorf Airport Man stabs airport employee in the head with a knife

DÜSSELDORF · A 24-year-old man has injured an airport employee with a knife in the arrivals area of Düsseldorf airport. Police are investigating an attempted homicide.

A man has stabbed a security staff member in the head with a knife at Düsseldorf airport. A police spokesman said on Tuesday morning that a 24-year-old man in the arrivals area of the airport approached the employee from behind early on Tuesday morning and suddenly stabbed him in the head with a knife. The victim was taken to hospital and operated on. The police said his life was not in danger.

The suspect was detained after a short chase on foot. He was not previously known to police. Police are investigating an attempted homicide and are currently working on the basis that the suspect has psychological problems. There is nothing to indicate that this was a politically motivated incident.

A police spokesman said the suspect used a knife with a fixed blade. Previously there had been talk of a utility knife.
