Rail traffic delays Man climbs up the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne

COLOGNE · German Rail faced significant delays and some cancellations on Wednesday evening in the Cologne area. A person who climbed the arch of the Hohenzollern Bridge was the reason for the disruptions. Rail traffic was back in operation as of 7:35 pm.

Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) shared on Twitter that there were major delays and some cancellations in Cologne on Wednesday evening. The reason given was that a person had climbed the arch of the Hohenzollern Bridge and was perched over the train tracks. “We don’t know what he wants,” said a police spokesperson. The man had asked for a translator. Fire department rescue teams were on the scene. Police were made aware of the incident at 4:40 pm.

Trains between Düsseldorf and Cologne-Ehrenfeld, for example Köln Süd (Cologne South), were taking a detour without stopping. The regional rail traffic was facing delays of around 30 to 60 minutes in both directions. Deutsche Bahn opened the route again at 7:35 pm but informed that delays were still to be expected.
