It is a turbulent week of strikes for Lufthansa and its passengers: two unions want to ground 876 flights. After cabin crews from its subsidiary Eurowings, who are members of the Verdi union, caused the cancellation of around 60 flights on Tuesday, pilots from the parent company, Lufthansa, are planning a much more wide reaching strike this Wednesday. The airline said the strike could cause the cancellation of almost one in two Lufthansa flights, affecting around 100,000 passengers.

The airline said 14 out of 18 Lufthansa flights to and from Cologne/Bonn airport will be cancelled on Wednesday. The flights are solely to and from Munich. Eurowings and Germanwings flights are not affected. All passengers are advised to check the current status of their flights on the Lufthansa website: www.lufthansa.com

30 flights to and from Dusseldorf will be cancelled. The airline said these included all ten connections to and from Frankfurt and 20 of the 28 flights to and from Munich.

The pilots are demanding a pay increase of 22 per cent over a five-year period.
