City marketing announces program Here’s what awaits visitors at Bonn Fest 2018

BONN · On the first weekend of October, a big Bonn Fest will be put on by the City Marketing Association. Music, information, culinary pleasures and entertainment round out the attractive offerings.

If the image of Bonn city center still needs a little polish, then the band Room-Service has helped out with the song it composed especially for the 21st Bonn Festival. It’s called “Bonner Plätze” (“Bonn places”) and it probably pleases the city to see lines in the song about the city as an inviting place for people to shop and stroll around. The big festival will run from Friday, October 5 until Sunday, October 7, with lots going on in the city center.

“Wine Mile” on Friedrichstraße

Münsterplatz will again be a gourmet mile with specialties from all over Europe. The regional brand Eifel will be set up on Friedensplatz, with tourism and culinary offers.

For the first time, Friedrichstraße is on board: Regional winegrowers will be presenting their products on the "Wine Mile". At Marktplatz and on surrounding streets, information stands will be set up featuring everything from trends in lifestyle, wellness, and fitness to leisure and culinary topics. On Sunday, the market will once again become a playground for children and adolescents courtesy of Bonn public utilities.

On Marktplatz and Münsterplatz, there will be stages set up with live music and interviews. The theme song “Bonn places” will be played by Room-Service on Saturday at 6:30 pm at the Town Hall stage. One can download the song as of Sunday at www.room-service.de and make a small donation, which will go to a couple of charitable organizations in Bonn, “Sterntaler Bonn” and the “Prälat-Schleich-Haus” from Caritas.

Sunday shopping

Eleven private hotels will participate in “Zu Gast in der eigenen Stadt” (“A guest in my own town”), offering affordable accommodations, including breakfast. One can book a room up until September 30 at: www.bonn-region.de .

On the Sunday of Bonn Fest, stores will be open for shopping ( 1-6pm is the normal time). The festival itself is open evenings until 10pm. On Sunday, the closing is marked by the traditional sing-a-long to Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” at 6:45pm with the Bonn Children’s and Youth Choir.
