Celebrity darts in Bonn

Three days after the World Cup final at London's Ally Palley, six darts stars took part in the Just-for-Fun event at the Maritim Hotel in Bonn on Saturday. The event was shown live on Pro7. The hall at the Maritim was filled with 2000 enthusiastic fans, alongside some ambitious but nervous celebrities including handball world champion Pascal Hens, professional footballer Max Kruse, former Welsh rugby professional Gerwyn Price, influencer Sarah Harrison and TV presenter Daniel Boschmann.

The crème de la crème of the Professional Darts Corporation was represented, including the newly crowned world champion Peter Wright, and the world number one Michael van Gerven from the Netherlands, who was defeated by Wright in the world championship final, both of whom received thunderous applause from the Bonn darts fans. Darts legend and 15-time world champion Phil Taylor as well as British female champion Fallon Sherrock also played at the event.

Children giving new year’s blessings

Children dressed in royal robes and crowns are wandering through the streets of Holzlar wishing everyone a happy new year. They are bringing God's blessing for the new year - 20*C+M+B+20 - to the houses and proclaim that Jesus is born for everyone. "The letters C, M and B stand for the Latin words Christus Mansionem Benedicat - Christ bless this house", explains Tanja Geslerski, who has recently organized the carol singing event in Holzlar. This year around 90 children and adults are taking part in the four day ‘Sternsinger’ campaign to raise money for children in Lebanon. On Sunday 12th January a thanksgiving mass with all the carol singers will be held at 11am in the Christ König church.

Continuing interest in Beethoven statues

Last spring, the over 700 Beethoven figures by the concept artist Ottmar Hörl created a great deal of interest on Bonn's Münsterplatz. And this continues to be the case - at least in Vienna. In an article published this week, the Austrian newspaper Wiener Zeitung used a photo of the Bonn art campaign to advertise the upcoming Beethoven anniversary celebrations.

Meanwhile, the attraction of the Hörl figures, which were erected at Beethoven's birthplace, is not waning. As part of the "Unser Ludwig" citizens' campaign for Beethoven, interested parties were able to buy a Beethoven statue in opal green or gold for 300 euros until 7th June 2019. The statues can now be ordered for 350 euros from City Marketing. Around 1500 of the statues have already been sold.

Craft fair at Telekom Dome

This weekend the 5th annual craft fair ‘BonnKreativ’ is taking place in Bonn, a paradise for anyone creative. Over one hundred exhibitors will be displaying their goods and offering tips on working with wool, fabrics, embroidery, scrapbooks, beads, stamps and paper. This year the venue has moved from the Stadthalle in Bad Godesberg to the Telekom Dome. On Sunday the fair is open from 11am until 6pm. Entry costs 6 Euros for adults, 5 Euros for students and children under 7 are admitted for free. More information (in German) can be found at: https://www.bonnkreativmesse.de/

As the parking spaces at the Dome at Basketsring are usually full it is advisable to take the bus.
