Culinary fans will have a feast: On Sunday, August 14 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven gourmet chefs from the Ahr Valley will present samples of their restaurant's menus at a public event in Bad Neuenahr's Kurpark. The so-called "Köchemarkt" (Cook's fair) is celebrating its 21st anniversary, and similar to previous years, many of the Ahr Valley's top wineries are showcasing their wines as well.

"Some of the visitors will stay the whole day and try everything that is available," says Hans Stefan Steinheuer, star-studded chef and owner of Steinheuers Restaurant in Bad Neuenahr-Heppingen. He is sure to be a major attraction at the fair. Some of the specialties he will prepare include a Beef Tatar with chips and a dish with capers, as well as filet of Icelandic Bass with broth of crustaceans and aioli. Each chef from the seven different restaurants will present six courses. If oysters are your thing, there will also be a stand offering fresh oysters.

All of this may sound very fancy, but it is truly an event for everybody – top-notch cooking with a fun fair atmosphere. No entry fee will be charged, and food will be available at prices between seven and 17 euros, including a half lobster from Metzlers Restaurant or the best of venison from the kitchen of Jagdhaus Rech. It is all self-service, the only challenge for visitors will be finding one of the 1,500 seats to sit down and enjoy their meals.

The whole event will kick off on Saturday, August 13 at 6 p.m. with a big dance and party night at the Kurpark. The band "Swede Sensation" will play a Tribute-to-Abba Show, and the food will be of course, Swedish. Be prepared for pikeperch, salmon and famous Kött-bullar (meat dumplings).
