Restaurant tip First brewery hotel in Bonn opens on Marktplatz

Bonn · The first brewery hotel in Bonn has opened in the former Haus Daufenbach close to the Marktplatz. It will be run by siblings Felicitas and Oliver Fischer.

Siblings Felicitas (29) and Oliver Fischer (31) have opened the first brewery hotel in Bonn in the former Haus Daufenbach near the Marktplatz. Oliver Fischer started brewing beer at home two years ago and his sister has long wanted to run her own hotel – so both passions are coming together under one roof.

From spring 2019, the 31-year-old wants to brew his own beer in the cellar. The buzz word is craft beer. “These special, high quality beers have been known worldwide since the 1980s; in Germany the beginnings lie in Berlin in 2010,” explains Fischer. “In Bonn, the subject is still quite new.”

In the Balthasar Bar (50 seats), solid wood furniture made by the siblings, a light wooden floor, framed old photos of Bonn and whitewashed walls invite you to linger and taste. The rustic cellar room, with its brick walls offers a further 50 seats. The hotel has seven double rooms and two three-bed rooms (between 75 and 120 Euro) and the hostel “Bed and Beer” has eleven beds (28 Euro per night). The breakfast buffet is extra (9.50 Euro; 10.50 Euro for non-hotel guests).

The Craft Beer Bar has no fewer than nine taps. The brands Germania (Pils and wheat beer), Landgang (for example, the India pale ale “American Dream”) and the London Beavertown brewery (with the pale ale “Gamma Ray”) are permanently represented with their draught beers.

There are also around 60 craft beers from the bottle, for example, India Pale Ale “Mystique” by Kuehn Munz Rosen from Mainz (0.33 l for five Euro) or the New England IPA “Tasty Juice” by Lervig from Norway (0.5l for nine Euro). A small bar food menu is being prepared and the beer sommelier Stephan Hilbrandt is offering tastings (next dates 21 February and 25 April).
