Mild weather continues Early pollen appearing in Bonn and the region

Bonn/Region · The weather is currently showing its best side in Bonn and the region. While some are happy about the continuing mild temperatures, the spring-like days have disadvantages for allergy sufferers.

Lots of sunshine and temperatures of more than 15 degrees: Spring has arrived in Bonn and the region a few days ago, the thick winter coat can remain in the closet during the day. The good news: An end to the mild weather is not in sight for the time being. According to the German Weather Service (DWD), Thursday is usually cloudy, but the sun rarely shines. However, the experts still do not expect any rain, a weak to moderate wind is blowing. Temperatures can rise up to 14 degrees.

While the weather situation on Friday will hardly change, the sun is expected to show itself more often at the weekend. Saturday will remain dry, meteorologists expect maximum temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with more than eight hours of sunshine. It will be just as springlike on Sunday, from a mostly cloudless sky the sun is expected to shine the whole day according to predictions.

In the coming nights, however, it will remain cold. If as the weather experts initially expect lows of six to two degrees, it may even get frosty on clear nights at the weekends with temperatures in the minus range.

Problems for allergy sufferers

However, the current mild spring weather has disadvantages for allergy sufferers: "Due to the relatively mild winter, we have a relatively early pollen flight," explains Natalija Novak, head of allergology at the Clinic for Dermatology and Allergology at the University of Bonn. The hazelnut is already a heavy source of stress, the alder a moderate one, explains the expert. Factors for the increased pollen flight are the mild temperatures and also the low precipitation in the past weeks. "The wind also distributes the pollen," says Novak. And so more affected people are already showing allergic symptoms.

The early pollen flight this year would follow a trend, explains the doctor. Already in the past years it was recognized that the load started rather earlier. The last year was an exception. After the hazel and the alder, allergy sufferers expect the birch. Normally it comes around the end of March. "If it remains so warm, however, they would already start dispersing from mid-March", explains the professor. However, she thinks that the birch pollen flight will not be as strong as in the past. "The birch should spread a little more over the weeks," says Novak. One reason for the current pollen count is Bonn's geographical location. Through the Cologne/Bonn bay there is always an earlier pollen flight than for example in the Sauerland, explains the expert.
