Hungry birds Collared parakeets gnaw into Bonn house façade

Bonn · Collared parakeets are tough. They originally come from Africa, but apparently they can get by quite well in Europe too. Two specimens gnawed their way through a house facade in Bonn.

The collared parakeet is considered the most widespread parrot species in the world. And there seem to be good reasons for this. A photo from Bonn-Castell shows that the bird obviously feels at home everywhere. Two specimens have nested there in a house facade and seem to even want to extend their domicile. So it may not be long before they open the breeding season. For many years they also have become native to the Rhineland, probably having escaped from a zoo, the Collared Parakeet now lives all over Europe.

Originally the animals come from Africa south of the Sahara as well as from Asia, beginning with Pakistan and India. In Bonn, they now populate mainly the trees on the banks of the Rhine - but they can also be found at Poppelsdorf Castle and Villa Hammerschmidt. In contrast, the nest in the façade of houses seems almost modest.
