The founder of the burger chain Hans im Glück, Thomas Hirschberger, wants to sell his 90 percent share in the franchise company. Corresponding reports were confirmed by the company on Tuesday. Interested parties are the self-service bakery Backwerk and Gerd Bühler's GAB-Beteiligungsgesellschaft, which has held a stake since 2018.

Hans im Glück Franchise GmbH denied reports that there were financial difficulties. In 2019, external sales amounted to 147 million Euro (2018: 120 million Euro). The operating result and cash flow were positive. In 2019, the number of restaurants increased by 15 to 81, nine of which are operated by the caterer Hirschberger himself - in Munich and Singapore, and this is not expected to change. There are three Hans im Glück restaurants in Bonn, three more in Cologne.

For the trained chef Hirschberger, this is not his first restaurant chain. In 1994 he had already founded the Tex-Mex franchise Sausalitos with his Swedish wife Gunilla. "With their vast experience in expansion strategy and franchising sales, GAB and the successful founders of Backwerk are, in the event of a sale, just the right experts to continue Hans im Glück's growth on a sustainable basis," the press release said.

Behind GAB is the father of the current managing director of Hans im Glück Franchise GmbH, Johannes Bühler, who manages the business together with Jens Hallbauer. The sale is to be completed this week.
